Within the city itself, visiting the Alamo and the Riverwalk are two things every visitor should do. The Alamo has a great visitor center and provides a bit of history with the visit. The Riverwalk winds through downtown San Antonio and it literally a sidewalk along the river. You can stroll through the evening lights and pop into one of the many restaurants or bars or you can take one of the Riverwalk tour boats which will take you along the river while you learn a bit about the city.
In addition to first-class restaurants and clubs, downtown San Antonio is also home to the San Antonio Spurs professional basketball team. If they are in town, this is a great way to spend the evening. You should also make a stop at Market Square. This is an outdoor plaza that covers three city blocks and is lined with shops, restaurants and produce stands. The largest Mexican market in the United States, Market Square is considered one of the top ten best outdoor markets anywhere.
If your family is more into theme parks, San Antonio will not disappoint. Both Six Flags and Seaworld have parks in San Antonio and they are open all year round. Morgan’s Wonderland is the only theme park in the world that is completely accessible. Schlitterbahn Waterpark Resort is also in nearby New Braunfels. This 65-acre waterpark is fed by the pristine Comal River and has been recognized as the #1 kid-friendly resort in Texas.
Near Schlitterbahn is Natural Bridge Wildlife Ranch and Natural Bridge Caverns. The wildlife ranch is a drive-through 450-acre ranch with wildlife from all over the world. Natural Bridge Caverns is another gorgeous natural attraction and your family can fill a day visiting just these two attractions.
San Antonio is also home to three military bases, including Joint Base Randolph AFB, home to the U.S. Air Force Education and Training Command, The Air Force Recruiting Service, and the Air Force Personnel Center.
San Antonio offers something for everyone. Whether it’s good food, a night on the town, or a day at the waterpark, you are sure to find it in San Antonio.
